President’s letter
Welcome Spring! Wishing for some warmer weather to start showing up soon.
Thank you to Denny Fox for her presentation of her Japanese fabric collection. Very impressive.
Our program for April will be Terri Shinn, a mixed media artist. I am sure we will all enjoy this program as well. Thanks to Joy Neal for lining up such interesting programs.
Recently Vice President Julie Anderson, Treasurer Cindy Greenfield and I met with the Church’s Facility Board. Because of Fellowship Hall construction they advised us they have modified the requirements and costs for use of their facilities, to go into effect August 1st. The Board has begun discussing options. Our intent is to inform the membership of our progress at the May meeting.
A representative of Quilter Anonymous will be at the April Meeting to display their raffle quilt and sell tickets. The drawing is just a few days after our meeting!
See you at the meeting!

QUILT CLASS !! PLAYING WITH PANELS !!
All of us have panels stuffed away in the hidden spots in our sewing studios. Let's pull them out and make something with them. This class will give you the inspiration to create something with those panels.
May 29th 10:00 - 4:00 Cottage Hobby House Anacortes
Cost: $45.00
This class is being taught by our talented returning member Teri Bever. The hobby house has wonderful space for 12, but that's it, so get signed up sooner than later. If you don't know Teri, she has taught quilting for many years and is incredibly talented. I thought that taking advantage of that talent would benefit FIQ in so many ways. We are offering this as a test to see if our members are interested in FIQ offering classes in the future, so if there is something that you would like to see offered, please reach out to me and we can work on scheduling more.
If you have questions about the panel class or want to sign up. You can text with Teri at 360-631-1197. Texting is the most effective method for Teri, or contact me!!

Did You Know?
The subject for the month is community quilts!! Our bylaws state that we make charitable contributions to enrich the community!! Soo, let's learn a bit about our efforts.
According to the standing rules - In order for FIQ to maintain its status as an official nonprofit, each member is asked to do at least ONE of the following, as they are able.
Let's sum that up a bit, basically members are asked to contribute in some way to our charitable contributions.
-You can make an entire quilt and donate it! You can piece a top! You can do the machine quilting(longarm or domestic)! You can sew the binding or the label! You can attend the workshops and help coordinate the items!
-You can, hopefully, get involved and continue to donate your time and resources as much as you like.
Is anyone tracking your donations? Nope! Just asking for you to help make FIQ a great group!!
On the website under the members only section - Charitable Quilt Information - donations going to -
Anacortes Family Center
Camp Korey Foster Children
The Linus Project
American Legion Post 13

Programs
Our April guest is Terri Shinn “My Journey into Texture”
Terri Shinn, a textile artist, has been a full-time artist for over 25 years – she is mostly self-taught, with an occasional class here and there. After being named Snohomish County Artist of the Year in 2005, Terri felt the need for more training to grow as an artist.
This year-long search for the right textile school led her to Gail Harker’s Creative Studies Center. For nearly 11 years, she studied color and design elements, while experimenting with new kinds of stitch, multi-media, and construction techniques.
Terri Shinn hopes never to quit learning and growing as an artist, but completing the program has allowed her more time to get involved with other arts organizations. She is currently a member of the Designer Craftsmen, Contemporary Quilters, and the Surface Design Association and a returning board member for the Schack Art Center in Everett.
Terri has always loved fabric, starting out by making traditional quilts, like her grandmothers and aunts, and moving onto embroidery and making clothes. Her quilts soon became more and more dimensional, whether it was adding on buttons, watermelon seeds, blown up balloons or ribbons.
Terri feels fortunate to have a very supportive husband, Kevin, who encourages her creativity. He has even been a dumpster-diver for some needed metal pieces! Terri work mostly in a small studio in her home, but has been known to take over the kitchen, dining room, living room, and the garage. As an artist, you can never have enough space.

Past Programs
If you missed it, you missed a good one! As part of our March meeting we were fortunate to have had a trunk show/presentation from our own Denny Fox. Denny shared a bit of history of Sashiko and Shibori and showed us a number of examples of each that she has collected over the years. The colors were beautifully saturated blues and purple, and the stitchwork was amazing! Thank you Denny!
