THE DIVAS - Wearable Art Designers
Joyce Eastwick & Artemis Wright, Coordinators
The next meeting on Wednesday, June 10th, at the Anacortes Senior Activity Center (10:00 am to Noon) will feature a group presentation on Resources for Creativity. Where do we look when we want to be inspired, or when we need to investigate a new technique? Regular business includes meet-up planning, show and share time and free items. All are welcome to join us.
Of special note: On Friday, June 6th, seven Divas will be strutting their stuff on runways at the Swinomish Casino for the 7th Annual Unconventional Runway Show supporting the Anacortes Senior Activity Center.
The designers are Beth Badour, Jerlyn Caba, Bonnie Nelson, Joyce Eastwick, Bobbi Lauducci, Gloria Shelton and Artemis Wright. Expect to see wearables made from birdseed bags, bicycle parts, dryer sheets and clear plastic egg cartons, among other unusual things!
The 300 tickets for this event sold out on April 15th within 30 minutes. If you missed getting a seat at this highly popular event, you can greet the designers and see their creations up close at the Depot Open House Friday, June 12th, 6-7:30pm.

Our mission is innovative use of textiles and surface design in wearable art clothing. Many of the same construction and ornamentation techniques used in traditional quilting are used in art clothing. Divas not only produce clothing but also accessories. Our meetings are planned to challenge our innovation and learn from one another and guest programs. We employ an emphasis on sharing but we also plan challenges. We also have a great deal of fun! We meet a the Senior center on the 2nd Wednesday of the month

Diva Paper Bag Challenge
Divas opened their mystery bags for the “paper bag”challenge. Each Diva contributed an item from the back of the closet or A thrift store and placed in an anonymous bag. Then each Diva selected a bag. The challenge is to Redesign reconstruct, reconsider the garment into something Wearable.
The donor remains a mystery until September. We will post the new garments here in September.
