Art Quilter's
The Art Quilters have demos/mini-classes to explore various techniques and methods of cutting, piecing, embellishing, layering, quilting, etc. As much fun as we have broadening our horizons, our favorite part of each meeting in Show and Share. The emphasis on Share. We are eager to show everybody else.
Sue graciously volunteered to take over as the Art Quilters’ Point of Contact and Coordinator from Denny Fox during the last Art Quilters meeting in July. She brings new ideas and loads of talent to the group. Contact her directly for questions and group membership. Sue Matyszar, [email protected]
July's meeting=We will be meeting at the La Conner Library, 520 Morris St, La Conner, on July 25th from 10am until Noon. Come to the back door as it will be open a few minutes before 10.
Andrea will be doing a demo on placing flanges in quilt borders/binding. This is NOT A WORKSHOP, no supplies needed.
Please bring any Show & Share. No time is allocated to stop for lunch. We will be done at noon and there are plenty of restaurants in the area for lunch after the meeting, if you want.
For those that missed the last meeting, the next challenge is: Tree. No dimensions, min or max. Your adaptation or interpretation. Need inspiration? Do an internet image search for "Tree Art Quilts." Finish challenge by January 2025 meeting.
I am looking for someone who is willing to take my place as the Art Quilters coordinator for meeting, venues, and email notices. My basement will still be available for workshops if no other venue is available and I plan to attend when I am able. I will be going back to school a night and studying will be keeping me busy.
We decided the Art Quilter’s Challenge is “Flight”. We have no definition of “Flight” except as it applies to Air or Sky so that everyone can define it in their own creative terms.
Flight”
Max Size: 18x24in, either horizontal or vertical
Min Size: 12x12in
1 Required Component: A Band of Blue, any shade, tint, or tone of Blue. It must start anywhere on one edge and be 1.5in wide finished, cross the quilt in any path or placement, and exit the quilt on a different edge again being 1.5in wide finished. The band of Blue can be larger or smaller width across the quilt using any combination of elements in various Blues, but must be 1.5in wide and one color, the same color, of blue at both two edges.
Attached is a drawing of how the finished challenge quilts will be displayed and the reason for the band of Blue. Also on the drawing is a list of a few “Flight” subjects to get you thinking about your definition of “Flight”. These are meant to examples and are not requirements.
A few last points:
Your participation is highly encouraged and is not a requirement.
The quilt or just the top should be finished in time for the registration/submission date that has not been announced yet. (I may submit a group registration, if allowed, that will include a separate form for your quilt.)
The quilt should be finished on or before April 5th, note this may change.
On the registration form, you will be able to indicate whether you are donating your quilt to the Guild for the Guild to sell with no part of the sale monies returned to you. The quilt will be returned to you if not sold, but I imagine it will be returned.
If you submit a quilt, please know that you must volunteer at the show in some capacity.
At this time, there is no limit to the number of quilts each person can register, note this may change.
Have Fun and Happy Stitching!
