Sew and Sits, Quilt classes and retreats

H ow to host a Sit and Sew? Find a place with great lighting, capacity for plugging in multiple outlets, tables and invite members. If there is a charge for the room or place, we recommend letting members know and splitting the cost.

Sit and Sew hosted by Julie Anderson at the Sedro Woolley library. Please contact Julie Anderson if you will be attending since there is limited space.
September 18 from 10-6
October 9 from 10-6
October 23 from 10-6

Bring everything you will need for your project.

Interesting Classes & Events

The Quilt museum is preparing for their Quilt show in Everett and is looking for helping hands in La Connor.  Carla will need help on Wed, Thurs, and Fri, September 27, 28, and 29.  And maybe there are a couple of eager FIQ people who'd like to help out?  Thank you!.......June Cook

Our next NQC meeting will be Sunday, Oct. 1 at the Skagit Transit Community Room, 105 E. Kincaid, Mount Vernon. Doors will open at 8:45 for set up with the meeting starting at 10 a.m.

Our speaker David Owen Hastings from Sequim. He is a graphic designer, and modern quilter. His topic will be Minimal Design, Maximum Impact. It is an overview of his quilt journey and his process for coming up with simple graphic quilt designs. He will show examples of how he translates an architectural photo into a quilt design with examples from his quilts. He also talks about walking foot quilting and how to break free from stitch in the ditch. Guests will be charged $7. Members are free.
Following the lecture (1 p.m.) David will be presenting a 3 hour workshop--Composing Modern Quilts From Architecture which will be open to FIQ members and NQC members. There will be a $40 fee. Nonmembers will be charged $50. (24 maximum participants)

Workshop: Learn to see architecture with the eye of a modern quilt designer. There will be a smartphone photography demonstration using a free app. Then we will create paper photo collages as studies for modern abstract quilt designs. Plan out the piecing as well as quilting using photos of architecture, pens and tracing paper. This is a no-sew workshop. Once you sign up you will be emailed the supply list. Let me know if you want a spot in the workshop.. I will collect the money later. Joy Neal

As a side note--David has an exhibit currently at the Pacific Northwest Quilt & Fiber Arts Museum in La Conner if you would like a preview of his work. It will be up through October.

Retreat info: We have 22 people attending the retreat -- there is room for more. Cut off is mid-September as I have to give them numbers. If you did not pay in full, you should have received a reminder with the amount owed.
